I’ve spent the summer writing online and building my writing business. Early in the summer, I entertained the idea of finding a summer job because I saw my income from my writing business dip in April and May.

I worried I wouldn’t recover my earnings as a solopreneur, so I applied for a summer job. I knew I didn’t want a summer job when I walked into the interview. I wanted to relax and enjoy my summer before returning to teaching for the next school year.

I went into the interview worried they would hire me for the summer job I didn’t want, so I requested my work hours. I asked to work only 10 hours per week and only on weekends.

It worked.

I got the rejection letter I wanted from that summer job.

The next day, I immediately started writing and working on my business. It was early June, so I had time to write daily.

It’s close to mid-July, and my writing income has increased, but I had an unexpected tutoring side gig during the summer. I said yes to the $120 per hour tutoring side gig several times a week.

I will also tutor three times a week in July until I return to teaching. But more importantly, I will tutor calculus, my favorite subject.
